With Shen’s champion rework, new mechanics are introduced, and old mechanics (dodge!) are resurrected. Don’t worry, he is still the flash taunting, stand united, split pushing tank ninja that we know and ban. This rework introduces a team oriented play style that puts Shen in a much better place. When champion reworks go live, players are intimidated, and often confused on how to build, and play said champion. Using information from the notorious top laner Dyrus, here is a quick guide to get you started.

Abilities

Passive- Ki Barrier: Shen shields himself for 52-120 (level based) plus 14% bonus health for 2.5 seconds. If the ability affects champions, Ki Barrier‘s cooldown is reduced by 4-7.5 (level based) seconds.

Q – Twilight Assault: Shen recalls his Spirit Blade to his location and deals bonus magic damage on his next 3 basic attacks within 8 seconds. If the blade collides with an enemy they are slowed by 35% when moving away from Shen for the next 2 seconds.

W – Spirit’s Refuge: Shen primes his Spirit Blade for 2 seconds, causing it to project a protective zone around it for 1.75 seconds. If he or an allied champion move nearby, it will grant allies in the zone 100% dodge chance.

E – Shadow Dash: Shen dashes in a target direction, dealing physical damage to all enemy champions hit and taunting them for 1.5 seconds.
Passive: Shadow dash and Twilight Assault’s damage recovers 30/35/40 energy.

Shadow dash is same as before.

R – Stand United: Shen channels for 3 seconds, granting the target allied champion an absorption shield that lasts up to 5 seconds. Upon completing the channel, Shen and his Spirit Blade will blink to the ally’s location.

Stand United is same as before.

Masteries

Shen has two different play styles he can focus in the mastery tree. The first is an offensive style that complements his split pushing potential along with the use of Twilight Assault. The second style focuses on Shen’s ability to be a damage eating tank.

Conclusion

Shen always had an unmatched ability to show up in the frontline of a team fight with Stand United. His new kit allows him to bring more benefits to his team. When strategically placed, Spirit’s Refuge  provides the team with a dodge zone that nullifies any auto attack damage from the enemy team. By landing a Shadow Dash  on multiple members of the enemy team, Shen will be sure to fulfill his role as peeler, and damage sponge. When playing Shen, remember to have good map awareness so you can be sure you won’t miss any game changing ultimate’s.
